Defining a Tree
We define a tree as a woody plant that grows from a single
base and is at least 2 meters high. Quite often a plant that normally
grows as a shrub can be pruned to grow into a tree, and we have also
included some natives that hardly ever grow into trees. Our definition
of trees includes
palms. Palms almost never branch, and
their woodiness is produced differently than a normal tree.
Occasionally we have added species that are
shrubs or vines, but closely related to a tree, and we have added many
native
shrubs that almost never become trees.
